Fill the Helmet
Youth Fire Academy Fundraiser Conducted by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)
The "Fill the Helmet" campaign is a fundraising campaign conducted by local International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) organizations that provides financial assistance to students who want to attend a Youth Fire Academy.
Every year each local IAFF organization that we fundraise for uses the proceeds from the "Fill the Helmet" campaign to introduce students to careers in fire service through classroom and practical exercises.
During the Youth Fire Academy, firefighters will personally teach children life-saving techniques, including:
- Rappelling
- Search and rescue in a smoke house
- Vehicle extrication
- CPR
- First aid training and bandaging
- How to operate a fire extinguisher
